On writing Ithae.
K. L. Cook was building worlds and writing characters long before she knew what it meant to tell a story. Inspired by classic authors such as J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, she is passionate about weaving meaningful, colorful, entertaining tales.
She lives in Indiana with her husband and three children and hopes her work will delight and provoke thought in the minds of her readers.
The Marks of Ithae is a planned pentalogy — a science-fantasy saga with a dystopian twist. Three volumes have been completed; two remain in transit.
A Statement
On the Elephant of AI.
My novels are bespoke prose. That means every word and punctuation mark in my work comes from my imagination and my fingers on the keyboard.
Additionally, I do not use AI generated elements of any sort in my book covers, nor will I ever use them in anything I sell to audiences.
I will sometimes hand-draw portrait busts of my characters, then use AI models to place those characters in different settings, or animate them. This is meant to provide some form of visualization, but should not necessarily be considered strictly canon.
Lastly, this website was constructed using AI to code an immersive wiki-type environment for readers to reference the world of Ithae as a supplemental tool.
I firmly believe that human creativity is a divine gift that does not need to be defended. To that end, I will always prioritize collaborating with other human creatives while continuing to pursue sharing my stories with the world.
