Portrait of Oren Thrynn, a fair-haired young man in a dark high-collared coat with a gilded crest, reading in a firelit chair.

Oren Thrynn

The Golden Heir

Lessons learned too late still grow as the Flameskin of Paden City begins to grasp his destiny.

The son of Paden City’s Councilor of Law, he is driven to prove his worth beyond his family name, and finds himself unprepared for the journey ahead. Will he navigate through all the secrets, ambition, and greed?

Oren Thrynn's life on Aurthur Avenue began nothing short of perfect. His biggest dilemma was with whether or not to marry one of the most prominent young ladies in the City. However, unsettling news of a crime lord's death agitated something within him He tried, and ultimately failed, to navigate even the most shallow of water in the City's unseen ocean of secrets. Jossorin's betrayal forced him into a place he never imagined he'd go: outside.

Oren Thrynn awakens injured and stranded in an alien world outside the protective dome of Paden City. Despite a severe language barrier and initial suspicion from the clan that rescued him, Oren slowly adapts to their mountainous, mushroom-filled home and begins learning their customs. Seeking to make himself useful, he is tasked with watching over a nest of "skyterror" eggs, and when they hatch, one of the fearsome infant creatures unexpectedly imprints on him. Driven by a desperate need to return to the City and warn his betrothed, Verithrya, Oren starts combat training to survive the dangerous environment. His purpose deepens when he discovers that a deadly "withering" plague afflicting his new R'honasari companions shares identical symptoms with a disease ravaging Paden City's livestock, inspiring him to learn their medicinal secrets to hopefully save both his new friends and his home.

Oren Thrynn integrates into the R'honasi clan while caring for two skyterror whelps, but his stay is quickly overshadowed by the outbreak of the deadly plague known as the Withering. Utilizing his knowledge of Cityspeech, Oren deciphers the ancient texts scattered throughout the mountainside keep, discovering undeniable historical ties between his people and the R'honasi. Desperate to save his dying friends, Oren volunteers for a perilous expedition into the deep tunnels to harvest the life-saving nerrorot root, successfully fighting off vicious underground monsters alongside R'honasari warriors and his loyal skyterror companion, Zajuri. Upon returning with the precious root, he is horrified to learn that the Elders have euthanized the afflicted villagers because the root could only slow the disease rather than cure it. Realizing that his City's scholars are the only ones equipped to synthesize a true cure from the root, Oren resolves to finally return home to Paden City, guided by his great-grandmother's vision and an ancient technological device that responds only to his touch
